Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the questions our clients ask most often, along with answers to help you understand life insurance and your options.
1. Eligibility & HealthQ: Can I qualify for life insurance?
A: Life insurance is available to almost every U.S. resident under the age of 85. Even if you have serious health issues that might prevent you from qualifying for traditional policies, you may still be eligible for guaranteed acceptance life insurance, which provides coverage for the rest of your life.
Q: Can I get life insurance with a pre-existing condition?
A: Having a pre-existing condition doesn’t automatically prevent you from qualifying. Providers evaluate your overall health and how well your condition is managed. Some insurers are more flexible than others, and working with an independent agent who can shop the market on your behalf can save you time and money. Our agents specialize in helping “high-risk” clients find the best options available.
2. Policy OptionsQ: What is the difference between term life and whole life insurance?
A: Term life insurance is the most affordable type and provides a fixed death benefit for a set period (the policy’s “term”). If you pass away during this term, your beneficiaries receive the full death benefit. Term policies are usually sold in increments of 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30 years.
Whole life insurance provides coverage for your entire life and is generally more expensive than term life. It is often used for end-of-life expenses or estate planning, and it typically builds cash value over time, which can be accessed while you’re alive.
Q: What is no-exam life insurance?
A: No-exam life insurance allows you to apply for coverage without a traditional medical exam. You answer a few health-related questions, and your application is often approved faster than traditional policies. This option may be ideal if you need coverage quickly.
3. Costs & ValueQ: How much does life insurance cost?
A: Life insurance costs vary based on your age, health, lifestyle, and the type and amount of coverage you choose. Our agents can shop multiple carriers on your behalf to find the best policy at the most competitive price.
Q: How does JRC know which policy is best for me?
A: Every insurance company sets its own rates and underwriting guidelines. Our agents use their access to these guidelines to anonymously shop the market and match you with the most affordable policy for your needs. We only work with A-rated (Excellent) or higher providers, and our agents each have at least a decade of experience.
4. Application & Approval ProcessQ: How long does the application and approval process take?
A: Most applications can be completed online or over the phone in less than 15 minutes. Traditional life insurance typically takes 4 to 8 weeks for approval, depending on your medical history. No-exam policies with accelerated underwriting can often be approved within a week or less.
Q: How does the application process work?
A: We guide you through your application over the phone or online, helping you complete it accurately and efficiently. Our agents stay with you through every step until your policy is approved.
5. Policy ManagementQ: Can I update my policy after it’s approved?
A: Yes. Our relationship doesn’t end at approval. We’re here to provide ongoing support, including annual reviews, address updates, and beneficiary changes.
Q: Will my rates increase over time?
A: Term life policies typically have fixed premiums for the duration of the term. Whole life policies usually have fixed premiums as well, but details vary by carrier. Our agents help explain how rates and policy terms work for each option.
